From Colorado Springs, driving
time is about two hours. Two routes are about equally direct: one
uses Hwy 24 to get to Hwy 285 near Buena Vista and then South to
Salida, another uses Hwy 115 to get to Hwy 50 near Cañon City
and then West to Salida.
From Denver, driving time
is about three hours. The most direct route is Hwy 285. But the route
from I-70 to Copper Mountain, then South to Leadville on Hwy 91,
and then South from Leadville on Hwy 285 can take nearly the same
amount of driving time, depending on traffic and road conditions.
