Absolute digs 29 Inch Wheeled Mountain Bikes!
Salida is near the epicenter of the bigwheel movement. Some say it started
when Wes Williams over in Crested Butte started bugging WTB to make The Tire,
which was the Nanoraptor that became available in late 1999. Then Gary Fisher
committed to mass-producing a bigwheel, and that was the projected demand that led WTB to take it to production.
So sure, CB probably really drove this thing, but there was lots of interest over on this side
of the divide too. Today, bigwheels are a very large part of Absolute's business,
and almost every member of the shop staff has at least one. We have several models of
Gary Fisher 29ers, a Lenz Leviathan, an Eriksen, the Coconino cruiser-style singlespeed that bowled over the 1996 framebuilders show, and a smattering of other
interesting bigwheels available for demo rentals or just gawking. Come check them out.
Some of the really big news in the world of the bigwheel: TIRES!
People used to really make a lot out of the fact that there weren't many tire choices for bigwheels. But that has really started to change. We now have fabulous choices from the old standard tire-makers like WTB and Bontrager, but now we have some really cool treads from Panaracer, Kenda, Specialized, Maxxis, Schwalbe, and Continental. Absolute bikes stocks as many as we can. This is one of the best places to see and buy the newest and coolest rubber.
We also have lots of great wheels, like a set of the Mavic Crossmax 700c, some killer new options from Bontrager, and rims o' plenty.
Forks? We have the new Fox F29, Rebas, Mavericks...
And then there are the demos. We have so danged many demo 29ers. Ride them, know them, love them.
